Prof. Marianne Vanderschuren


Professor Marianne Vanderschuren PhD has over 30 years’ experience in the field (smart) mobility. For over 10 years, she worked in the Netherlands at TNO Inro (a sister organisation of the CSIR), before joining the University of Cape Town in 2000. Marianne has made a major contribution to teaching, research, and practice as an academic in the Centre for Transport Studies. She specialises in sustainable and intelligent transport and the protection of vulnerable road users, through the use of data collection and analysis, transport modelling and assessment tool development. Marianne is an award-winning author and holds the DSI-NRF/CSIR Co-funded Smart Mobility Research Chair, growing the South African knowledge base and developing the next generation professionals. Marianne is currently also the President of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering.
