About the Facilitators: Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe
Deputy Head of Department and Associate Professor
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science, UJ
Prof. Longe leads the Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group at UJ and is a recognised thought leader in renewable energy, smart grids, electromobility, and intelligent power systems. With multiple leadership roles across IEEE and global engineering organisations, she brings both technical depth and international perspective to the discussion on sustainable transport. In 2024, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by UJ’s Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment.
About the Facilitators: Prof. Kristy Langerman
Director, Joint Research Centre for Smart Mobility and Climate Change
Department of Geography, Environmental Management and Energy Studies, UJ
A leading researcher in the intersection of transport, air quality, and energy use, Prof. Langerman has contributed to South African environmental policy for over two decades. She is the editor-in-chief of the Clean Air Journal and a former president of the National Association for Clean Air. Her work connects academic research with actionable environmental impact.
About the Facilitator: Meinrad Signer
Independent Consultant (Switzerland) With over 40 years in engine R&D and emissions regulation, Meinrad brings global insight into diesel and gas engine technologies, regulatory standards (including Euro VI), and fuel-emission policy. He has worked with global bodies including the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and played a central role in advancing soot-free bus standards worldwide.
