Johan is an admitted attorney, with a Master’s degree in Commercial Law, and various short courses on Smart Cities (Open University), Internet-of-Things (Kings College London), GDPR (University College London), Micro Economics (UNISA) among others. Johan leads the GoMetro Advisory unit in helping clients understand transport data, operational optimisation, and the transition to electric vehicles – in addition to ad hoc advisory work in the TOD and BRT space.
He has more than 17 years of experience in providing professional services related to law, energy reform, transport reform, and urban reform projects. He has programme and project-managed projects and teams in Africa, Asia, the United Kingdom, Latin America, and the United States.
Recently, he has led projects on EV feasibility in Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Africa, and several data-driven public transport reform projects in South Africa, Bangladesh, and Albania.
He is particularly interested in the interplay between public-private partnerships, economics, and the private rights of the individual.
