Andrew Wheeldon graduated from the University of Cape Town (B.Soc.Sci, and PG Organisational Management); and from the University of Leicester, UK, with a MSc. in the Sociology of Sports Management. From 2002-2014 Andrew served as Director (co-founder) of the Bicycling Empowerment Network (BEN) South Africa, and was co-founder of BEN Namibia in 2005. Since October 2014 Andrew has served as a consultant with Bicycle Cities, and engages with government and business to assist the modal shift from cars to bicycles, through conferences, workshops and events. He further consults as a trainer of the Non-Motorised Transport Practitioners course on behalf of the South African Roads Federation (SARF) and serves on the management and core team of the Carfree Cities Alliance (CCA). He is currently contracted as an Advocacy sub-consultant to SMEC Namibia, assisting the City of Windhoek in the feasibility study for a city-wide cycling and walking intervention program. Andrew has presented on low-cost mobility in South Africa and abroad, including at Velo City Dublin, Cape Town, Munich, Brussels, Copenhagen; and in mobility conferences in Delhi, Quito, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Dubai, and Pune; and continentally/regionally in Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia and Botswana.
