CapeBPO is the strategic business partner to the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government, dedicated to the growth and development of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in Cape Town and the Western Cape. Established in 2002 as a non-profit organisation, CapeBPO works in partnership with government, industry and investors to position the Western Cape as a leading global destination for outsourced business services while driving sustainable economic growth and employment.
CapeBPO’s mission is centred on creating an enabling environment for the BPO sector through investment attraction, industry collaboration and workforce development. By connecting global businesses with local talent, the organisation plays a vital role in strengthening the competitiveness of the region and creating meaningful employment opportunities for South Africans.
The organisation’s work is delivered through three strategic pillars:
Investor Facilitation focuses on promoting the Western Cape as a preferred destination for international BPO investment. CapeBPO works closely with local, provincial and national government, investment promotion agencies and industry stakeholders to attract new investors, facilitate market entry, support business expansion and showcase the region’s competitive advantages. Through strategic engagement and investor support, CapeBPO contributes to increased foreign direct investment, business confidence and long-term sector growth.
Industry Mobilisation and Development is aimed at strengthening the BPO ecosystem by fostering collaboration across industry, government and strategic partners. CapeBPO represents the interests of the sector through advocacy, research, stakeholder engagement and industry forums while providing opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration. The organisation also delivers initiatives that promote innovation, leadership development, employee wellbeing and industry recognition, including executive forums, networking events, wellness programmes and the annual CapeBPO Awards. These initiatives strengthen industry relationships and contribute to a resilient and connected BPO community.
Skills Development focuses on building a sustainable pipeline of skilled talent to meet the evolving needs of the BPO industry. CapeBPO works with employers, government departments, educational institutions and training providers to design and implement industry-led programmes that prepare unemployed youth and job seekers for careers in customer experience, digital services, technical support and leadership. These programmes not only improve employability but also support businesses by providing access to work-ready talent equipped with the skills required to succeed in a global industry.
Through these three strategic pillars, CapeBPO supports the continued growth of one of the Western Cape’s most significant employment sectors. The organisation works collaboratively with its partners to improve the business environment, facilitate investment, develop skills and create pathways to sustainable employment, particularly for young people and individuals from historically underserved communities.
Today, the Western Cape is recognised as one of the world’s leading BPO destinations, renowned for its highly skilled English-speaking workforce, favourable business environment and strong track record in delivering world-class customer experience services. CapeBPO continues to build on this reputation by driving investment, supporting industry growth and enabling inclusive economic development.
Through its commitment to collaboration, innovation and excellence, CapeBPO remains focused on creating lasting impact for businesses, communities and the broader economy, ensuring that the Western Cape continues to thrive as a globally competitive BPO destination.
