Session 1.1: DRC Mining by Airtel Business

Technical Workshop

Airtel Business positions reliable connectivity as the essential foundation of Smart Mining. Most digital transformation initiatives fail not due to technology, but because the network cannot support them. With its extensive footprint across the DRC, Airtel delivers enterprise-grade connectivity even in remote and challenging areas. For off-grid mining sites, Airtel deploys dedicated private LTE networks that ensure performance, security, and high availability. Its SD WAN solutions seamlessly interconnect pits, plants, camps, and headquarters for secure, uninterrupted data flow. Since every IoT sensor, AI dashboard, and safety system depends on a reliable network, Airtel Business provides the foundation needed to optimize and secure mining operations.

Session 1.2: From Data to Decision: AI for Orienting Human Attention in Mining Operations

Technical Workshop

Unicompex Congo, a UNI-GROUP company, is the authorised distributor in the Democratic Republic of Congo for tor.ai — India’s largest industrial IoT company, with more than 500,000 devices deployed worldwide. Together we deliver intelligent monitoring solutions (RMS, BMS, energy monitoring) across the country’s energy, telecom and industrial infrastructure. UNI-GROUP additionally operates a fleet of nearly 1,500 diesel generator sets under O&M contract across multiple DRC provinces, giving our approach a uniquely strong operational grounding for serving Congolese mining operators.

Our session will include a live demonstration on the six diesel generators powering DRC Mining Week, fitted for the occasion with the tor.ai genset monitoring solution. Participants will see in real time how AI detects anomalies that operators typically miss — a concrete anchor before extending the discussion to the wider mining operating environment: diesel fleet (haul trucks, dozers, gensets), dewatering and slurry pumps, conveyors, ventilation, substations, and tailings dam instrumentation.

Session 3.1: “Presentation of the key priorities of the United Nations System’s (UNS) joint programme for the mining sector in the DRC”

Technical Workshop

The United Nations System’s (UNS) programme offer for the mining sector is designed as a strategic support tool for the Government of the DRC. It is based on a vision of the mining sector’s gradual transformation, aimed at more inclusive, sustainable and value-creating mining, contributing to economic diversification, the resilience of local communities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Structured around six priority programme areas, the package offers concrete levers for support in the fields of governance and transparency, artisanal mining, the protection of human rights, the environment and climate, the development of value chains and local processing, as well as data strengthening, innovation and coordination. These interventions draw on the complementary expertise of both UN and non-UN actors to capitalise on the UN’s added value in terms of policy and programme delivery, and to promote structural transformation towards a model that generates decent jobs, effective and transparent governance, and environmental sustainability in the mining sector, for the benefit of the State, the private sector, local communities and future generations.

Session 3.2: From Mine to Market: Building Responsible and Inclusive Artisanal Mining Chains in the DRC

Technical Workshop

In the DRC, despite due diligence efforts, artisanal mining communities — particularly women and children — remain vulnerable. Responsible supply chains cannot be sustainable without strengthening their resilience. Women's empowerment and capacity building across key actors (cooperatives, processing entities, public stakeholders) are essential to improving child protection and promoting more accountable governance. Through the ‘Her security’ project, IMPACT proposes an approach that strengthens accountability at every link in the chain.
