Shaakira Karolia currently serves as an Adviser in the Private Office of the Minister at South Africa’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy. Among other strategic initiatives, she leads the Ministry’s work on the conceptualisation and implementation of innovative transmission-finance mechanisms, a critical enabler of national energy security and energy market transformation. An impact-driven development, policy and finance professional, Shaakira brings extensive experience across government, academia and the private sector. She holds a Master’s degree in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria (cum laude) and an MBA from the University of Oxford (with distinction). Shaakira is currently a PhD candidate in Development Studies at King’s College London.
