Peter Smaill is the Head of Solutions at Plentify, with over 13 years of experience in the engineering and energy industries in South Africa. Previously, Peter was a Process Engineer at Sasol’s Secunda Refinery for nine years contributing significantly to Sasol’s annual revenue. He was responsible for long-term improvement roadmaps, projects, and troubleshooting at various processing units for Sasol. Prior to this, he spent two years in various production roles at Sasol. Peter holds an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and is pursuing a Masters of Management in Energy Leadership at Wits Business School. In his personal capacity, Peter directs a non-profit organization that runs community recycling projects. Through his operational support and software skills, Peter has enabled the project to recycle over 700 tons and provided R1.2 million in value to marginalised communities since 2013. Peter joined Plentify in 2024, bringing his engineering experience and programming skills to manage large scale load-shifting services. Plentify currently manages 40MW of household appliances helping to address South Africa’s electrical grid challenges.
