Muzi W Mkhize is the Full-Time Regulator Member responsible for Petroleum Pipelines Regulation at NERSA. Mr. Mkhize started his career at Sasol Synthetic Fuels (SSF), where he held various positions from Trainee Engineer to Senior Process Engineer/Business Consultant from 1994 to 2001. He moved to the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa as a Director: ICT / Business Analyst from 2001 to 2005. He then joined the Department of Minerals and Energy where he worked as Chief Director: Hydrocarbons.

Prior to joining NERSA, he also briefly served as Head of Economic Development and Tourism for the Mpumalanga Provincial Government. Mr Mkhize has almost three decades of continuous service to the private and public sectors cover the manufacturing, ICT, energy, economic development, tourism and water businesses. He holds a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) and Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degrees, from the University of South Africa (UNISA) as well as a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Engineering) from the University of KwaZulu- Natal.

He has extensive experience in the energy sector, having worked within the industry as well as in policy formulation, administration and regulation. He has served on various multilateral and bilateral structures as a government/country representative. These include, amongst others, serving as Vice-Chair of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) from 2009 to 2010; Gas Commissioner for the South Africa/Mozambique Gas Commission: and the South Africa/Namibia Gas Commission from 2008 to 2016.

Mr Mkhize also served as a Director on the Boards of various state owned entities in the water, energy and economic development sectors.
