Actom Protection and Conrol

Herman Mare

General Manager

Herman Mare, who holds a BEng degree in Electrical Engineering. Herman began his career as an apprentice at City Power, where he gained first-hand experience in executing the designs of professional engineers, specifically in the protection field. This early foundation gave him a deep appreciation for the practical challenges of implementation, shaping the way he approaches engineering to this day. Motivated by this experience, Herman pursued his degree in electrical engineering, which enabled him to transition into design. He is now with ACTOM, where he works on what he describes as “the other side of the coin” — developing solutions with a clear understanding of their operational and practical implications, particularly in the field of digital substations using IEC 61850. Today, Herman is the General manager for ACTOM’s Protection and Control Business and brings this unique perspective, bridging theory and practice, to share insights that strengthen both engineering design and real-world application in digital substations.
