Eng. Boyd Kanchela is a highly experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in hydro power generation, transmission, and distribution. With over 28 years of experience, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical expertise in the energy sector. Currently, Eng, Kanchela is the Chief Executive Officer of Kariba North Bank Extension Power Corporation, (KNBEPC) Limited, responsible for overseeing the operation of the 360MW Kariba North Bank Extension Power Station and the 100MW Chisamba Solar PV plant. Eng. Kanchela’s expertise spans hydro power generation, transmission, and power system operations, with a focus on sustainable energy solutions. His leadership and technical skills have driven success in various roles, making him a respected professional in the energy sector. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Copperbelt University in Zambia. He also holds a Diploma in Electrical Technology, and a Certificate in Planning of Utility Scale Solar PV Power Plants. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (FEIZ). Eng. Kanchela has worked for Zambia’s national power utility , ZESCO Limited, including secondment to Itezhi Tezhi Power Corporation for 24 years, where he held various senior positions. He has also worked in the Mining industry under Operations and Maintenance of substations. Eng. Kanchela is a resilient Electrical Engineer, able to adapt to ever changing technology and keen to accept fresh challenges with vast experience in installation, commissioning and maintenance and operation of hydro generators, power transformers, and auxiliary equipment.
