“A positive impact on the province’s economy”
The newly re-elected governor of Haut-Katanga, H.E. Jacques Kyabula Katwe, was welcomed back as an honoured guest and long-standing supporter of the DRC Mining Week in Lubumbashi this week to deliver the welcome address on the opening day.
This is the 19th edition of the long-running flagship mining conference and expo organised by the VUKA Group.
Governor Katwe also posted on social media that the City of Lubumbashi was “pleased” to host DRC Mining Week again, as it is “making a positive impact on the province’s economy. Delegates come from 45 countries, they pay for goods and services. Last year, the financial manifold was $7.6 million.” He added with a smiley emoji that this figure made him want attendees to “spend even more.”
He expressed his satisfaction to see discussion topics on strengthening energy infrastructure and implementing a sustainable energy plan. He added: “This is one of our priorities to meet the expectations of our populations.”
Earlier, Governor Kyabula Katwe also congratulated the DRC Mining Week team for the chosen theme of this year’s conference, namely “Prioritising Sustainable Mining Operations & Local Transformation in the DRC.”

“We are always delighted to welcome back H.E. Governor Kyabula Katwe, “says Samukelo Madlabane, Events Director – Mining for the VUKA Group, “particularly in the light of the governor’s longstanding support for DRC Mining Week.
