Overview

GEBIS Energy Limited’s ‘Urban Municipal Waste to Energy (WtE)’ project area of business is to establish a dual energy plant with an electricity generation installed capacity of 14.14 MW and bioethanol production plant of 10.8 – 13.5mn liters per annum, profitably processing urban municipal solid waste in the city of Blantyre.
The electricity will be fed into the local power grids servicing this geographical market segments whilst the bioethanol will be sold to fuel marketing companies for blending. This business enterprise is expected to be later expanded to the city of Lilongwe following the successful implementation of the maiden project in Blantyre.

Investment Project Type:

Private

Invested Value to Date:

$35,000

Why Investing

1
Sustainable Waste Management
Investing in this project will increase waste collection efficiency in Blantyre from 40% to 95%, significantly reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills. This will avert 13,400 metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually, contributing to substantial greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The project provides a cost-effective and environmentally friendly waste management solution that benefits the community and the planet.
2
Alleviating Electricity Deficit
The investment will enhance the power supply by adding 2.4% to the national grid's baseload, helping to alleviate the electricity deficit in Blantyre and surrounding areas. This increase in reliable electricity will support economic activities, reduce power outages, and improve the quality of life for residents. Additionally, incorporating renewable energy sources will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, promoting a more sustainable energy infrastructure.
3
Boost Bioethanol Production
This project will reduce the ethanol blending deficit by 15% and increase the effective blending ratio by 65%, contributing to the achievement of national bioethanol blending targets. Increased bioethanol production will lower transportation-related emissions and reduce fuel costs while supporting local agriculture by creating a stable market for bioethanol feedstocks.
