Mukuru

Dougal Bennett is the Chief Commercial Officer for Mukuru, a leading next-generation fintech platform in Southern Africa that offers affordable and reliable financial services to over 17 million customers across Africa, Asia and Europe. 

In his role as CCO, Dougal is primarily responsible for developing and implementing commercial strategies to drive business growth for Mukuru’s remittance-based products and services in line with the company’s strategic objectives. 

Prior to this role, he was the Chief Financial Officer responsible for growing the finance function from its start-up roots to a big-four audited multinational company serving 17 million customers globally. Before Mukuru, Dougal held the role of Assistant Manager in the Transaction Services Advisory department at KPMG London for 5 years where he was responsible for advising clients in the pre and post deal period following a major acquisition, divestment or merger. 

Dougal is a dynamic leader with over 17 years experience leading successful teams across Africa and Europe, with a focus on African fintech.  He holds a BSC (Hons) from Rhodes University, South Africa and is a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW in the UK.  Dougal is passionate about driving financial inclusion particularly in Africa, focussing not only on a range of products and services that are relevant to the customer but also striving to make the process simple and time-efficient. 

Dougal was born in Harare Zimbabwe, currently lives in Cape Town South Africa and is married with 3 children. He is an avid long-distance runner and passionate about the investment of children’s education in Africa.
