Overview

ZEN Carbon is a Kenyan climate technology company developing and commercializing CO₂ mineralization technology for the cement and concrete industry. Our platform enables concrete producers to permanently store captured CO₂ within concrete while reducing cement demand, addressing both the carbon intensity and cost pressures of concrete production.

We integrate a controlled CO₂-to-water injection system into existing batching plants, converting captured CO₂ into a reactive, carbonated water stream that is introduced during concrete production. The CO₂ reacts with calcium-bearing phases in cementitious materials to form stable carbonate minerals, creating durable carbon storage within the finished product. By optimizing the mineralization process alongside mix design, ZEN Carbon aims to reduce cement use without compromising concrete performance.

We have progressed from laboratory development to industrial deployment, with our technology deployed at Flamingo Concrete in Nairobi in August 2026. This deployment represents an important step toward validating the technology under real production conditions and developing a standardized retrofit model for wider commercial adoption.

Our business model is designed for scale: ZEN Carbon provides the technology, process integration and MRV infrastructure to concrete producers, while creating a pathway for carbon-removal value from permanently mineralized CO₂. We are also developing partnerships with CO₂ suppliers and carbon-market stakeholders to build an integrated carbon removal ecosystem.

With Africa’s construction sector expanding rapidly, ZEN Carbon is building a pathway for existing industrial infrastructure to become part of Africa’s carbon-removal and low-carbon construction infrastructure. Our next stage is to replicate our technology across additional concrete plants in Kenya and other African markets, beginning with emerging opportunities in South Africa.
