Scale-UpHelton Traders Limited is a Ugandan circular manufacturing company that transforms post-consumer plastic bottles into recycled polyester sewing thread.
We collect and process plastic waste through a local value chain that starts with waste collectors and ends with a finished textile product used by wholesalers, tailors, garment businesses, uniform makers and other textile manufacturers.
Our work addresses three connected needs: reducing plastic pollution, creating better income opportunities for waste collectors, and increasing local production of textile inputs that are still largely imported into Uganda and the wider East African market.
Helton works with more than 110 waste collectors, including many women and young people, and serves over 150 wholesale customers and thousands of end users. We have recycled approximately 1,500 tonnes of plastic cumulatively and continue to expand our production capacity and customer base.
Our long-term goal is to build a strong regional circular manufacturing business that keeps more value within Africa by converting locally available waste into competitive finished products, while creating green jobs and reducing dependence on imports.
