ScopingThe global shift toward sustainable mobility demands a workforce with specific skills to enable the widespread use of electric vehicles(EVs). However, in Africa, the shortage of local EV manufacturers and assemblers as well as the high cost of EVs means that the region mostly depends on the importation of used EVs that typically and more often encounter
breakdowns.
Technicians come into contact with EVs when they experience breakdowns after they have already been imported by customers. This project lays out a paradigm shift in EV technician training that incorporates extended reality (XR) technology. XR immerses technicians in real-life scenarios, providing unmatched opportunities to combine theoretical knowledge with real-world applications without the need or use of physical vehicles.
This study intends to create and test innovative XR-based training modules customized to Africa.
