As we close the year 2024, it’s important to remember the trends and highlights that shaped this year in order to look forward to a brighter, more sustainable and equitable mobility future for Africa. Here is a summary list of the highlights of 2024, specific to our journey here at Smarter Mobility Africa.
Rewind 2024
- Our core focus at the beginning of the year was an SMA for all. What that meant is ensuring we are creating accessible, affordable and equitable mobility for all citizens. Hence our core theme, ‘Embracing the new Urban Era Through Smarter Mobility’
- We hosted a number of webinars which focused on our content pillars for the event namely ‘expanding public transport’ and ‘green fleets’ which had an impeccable impact and were a success in creating awareness and educating the audience.
- We got our creative caps on and created some well-thought out videos to highlight and showcase the work we have been doing throughout the years and at SMA 2024
- We networked and engaged with stakeholders in-person and through attending external webinars and events
- We create video interviews and content highlighting our stakeholders & thought-leaders across Africa
- We forged and created a platform for stakeholders to meet & engage one another on forming strategic business partnerships
- We celebrated and collaborated with successful pilot/case studies that showcased the development and growth of smarter mobility over the 6 years
And this is all thanks to you, as a reader, attendee, speaker, sponsor and partner. The journey to mobility is still possible. By recognising where we have come from, we can confidently sail into the future being proud of the millstones and success stories we have paved along the journey so far. What is to be expected for mobility in the future is big but it’s also going to take some time. So what are we missing and where can we go from here?
Here is what trends we believe will shape smart mobility going forward…
A Journey into 2025
- New Energy Vehicles – This trend is central to our ‘ Embracing the New Urban Era’ vision for sustainable cities. The electrification of mobility will continue to gain traction and momentum, whilst this year demonstrated a significant mark in the industry. Also heavily driven by battery technology and increasing environmental concerns.
- Expanding Public Transport: Shared mobility services, such as ride-sharing and car-sharing, are becoming increasingly popular whilst reducing congestion and emissions. These services are key components of the New Urban Era’s emphasis on shared and efficient mobility.
- Connected cities: To create smarter cities, urban areas need to be more connected. By adopting digital technologies that enable data-driven decision making, there will be an enhanced user-experience within public transport. Digital innovation is at the heart of driving the new urban era whilst creating smarter, more connected cities.
