Electric Vehicle Adoption in Last-Mile Delivery: Industry Survey in Johannesburg

March 26, 2026

The University of Johannesburg’s Process, Energy and Environmental Technology Station (UJ PEETS) is currently conducting a research study on the use and adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for last-mile delivery (LMD) in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

The study aims to better understand:

  • The types of delivery vehicles currently in use
  • Industry perceptions of electric vehicles, including ease of use, benefits and challenges
  • The readiness of the delivery sector to transition toward a greener, more sustainable and circular economy

Importantly, companies do not need to currently use electric vehicles to participate. Insights from organisations using conventional or hybrid delivery vehicles are equally valuable.
