Monday, 5 August 2024: Eskom, South Africa’s leading electricity public utility, is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with Golden Arrow Bus Services, a pioneer in the public transportation sector.

This strategic partnership aims to advance the development and deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations in the Cape Metropole, marking a significant step towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Under the terms of the MOC, Eskom and Golden Arrow will collaborate on a comprehensive electric vehicle initiative designed to transform the public transport landscape and will focus on several key areas, including the development of EV infrastructure, the integration of renewable energy sources, and the implementation of innovative technologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electric public transportation.

Under the terms of the MOC Eskom and Golden Arrow will aim to:

• Establish a workable relationship with the aim of stimulating South African market for electric vehicles.
• Enable firm decision making on investments in local manufacturing of electric vehicles and to provide EV charging infrastructure to the market with the aim of creating an economic value and encourage participation, therefore ensuring carbon footprint reduction.
• Identify key areas of the partnership for the electric vehicles initiatives that will ensure that a win-win platform is created.
  Eskom’s Mbulelo Yedwa, General Manager Eskom Distribution Cape Coastal Cluster, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration saying: “I firmly believe this will further give a push to Eskom’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050 while also giving impetus to government’s commitment to the department of transport’s green energy strategy”.

Golden Arrow CEO, Francois Meyer, said: ” Successfully introducing electric buses requires partnerships across the value chain. By working together, we can pave the way for a greener future and revolutionise the local public transport sector.”
