Overview

PyroPSP is PyroSA’s first commercial-scale biochar and carbon removal project, developed in partnership with PSP Timbers at its Oudtshoorn operations in the Klein Karoo. The project converts unavoidable sawmill and forestry waste into high-integrity biochar, verified carbon removal credits, and valuable by-products, while materially reducing fire risk and waste-handling costs at an active timber site.

The project is anchored by approximately 4,000 tonnes per year of sawmill waste, with feedstock exclusivity and the project site secured under executed agreements, providing clear line-of-sight to biomass availability and land-use rights while final commercial agreements are concluded. The proposed site is located on an Industrial Zone 3–zoned property, ensuring suitability for continuous industrial operations and strengthening overall project bankability.

PyroPSP deploys a proven, closed-loop pyrolysis system supplied by PyroCCS, already operating in Southern Africa, paired with a fully integrated digital MRV framework aligned with leading international carbon standards. The project is structured through a dedicated SPV, with PyroSA responsible for funding, EPC delivery, operations, certification, and offtake. PSP does not invest capital or take technology, market, or carbon risk, but participates meaningfully in project upside.

At steady state, the plant produces biochar for agricultural and industrial markets and generates durable carbon removal credits for global buyers. Commissioning is targeted within six months of funding, with repeatable profitability from Year 2 onwards. PyroPSP serves as the anchor reference site for scaling a broader Klein Karoo–Garden Route carbon corridor.
