Peco Power Communities Renewable Electrification is a pioneering, market-based solution to South Africa’s severe energy access gap. We address energy poverty for the estimated 3.5 million unelectrified citizens by deploying affordable, modular PowerBrick™ solar home systems. Our unique approach focuses on achieving deep community penetration and sustainability through a decentralized Champion Network. This model transforms unemployed youth into 96 sustainable micro-enterprises (MSMEs) responsible for sales, installation, and long-term maintenance. Validated by our R&D ties to Wits Enterprise, secured debt financing, and operational success across five provinces, this project simultaneously delivers reliable, 25-year life solar energy and creates scalable green jobs, positioning it as a blueprint for rapid, equitable electrification across the continent.
