Overview

HJA Africa has been manufacturing its liquid biostimulant farming input, OFA, in Ghana for the last 6 years. OFA fertilises, controls pests and diseases, and increases drought resilience. OFA is made by sustainable pyrolysis from waste wood collected after our plantation forestry partners harvest tree trunks, prior to replanting trees. OFA increases yields very arrodably, enabling farmers, particularly smallholders, to increase their incomes. By reducing the need for inorganic fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides, it avoids significant environmental harm, whilst also improving the soil. OFA costs less then 5% of the equivalent inorganic fertiliser cost, and typically gives farmers returns of more than 20 times what it costs them. OFA is now recognised as a leading organic input in Ghana, and we aim to spread its benefits across Africa.
