Overview

The project is a transformative, women-led initiative aimed at strengthening climate-resilient agriculture, clean energy access, and ecosystem restoration in Lesotho. It recognises rural women as central agents of change in food systems, natural resource management, and local green economies, while addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, land degradation, energy poverty, and biodiversity loss. In parallel, the project promotes Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to restore degraded agricultural landscapes and catchments. By integrating women’s economic empowerment, renewable energy innovation, and nature-based ecosystem restoration, the Greening Women Enterprises Project provides a holistic and scalable model for building climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods in Lesotho. It bridges global environmental commitments with local action, ensuring that women are not only beneficiaries but leaders in the transition to a resilient, low-carbon, and nature-positive future. The project directly contributes to and aligns with key global environmental and development frameworks, including the SDGs (1, 2, 5, 7, 13, 15), the Paris Agreement, the CBD, and addresses national priorities such as the NSDP and NDC, among others.
