Bankable FeasibilityFish Renew, developed by Dominion Solutions, is a sustainability-driven fish waste management solution designed to transform aquaculture and seafood processing waste into high-value products while addressing environmental and regulatory challenges. South Africa produces significant volumes of fish annually, generating substantial waste that is often landfilled or used in low-value applications such as pet food. Rising disposal costs and the City of Cape Town’s upcoming organic waste-to-landfill ban by 2027 create urgency for alternative solutions. Fish Renew introduces a closed-loop system that collects and repurposes fish waste from fish farms into agricultural inputs, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceutical-grade compounds, unlocking economic value while reducing environmental harm.
The project follows a phased approach. Phase 1 focuses on logistics, waste collection, and raw waste sales. Phase 2 introduces processing into fertilisers and soil enhancers aligned with regulatory compliance. Phase 3 expands into nutraceutical products such as collagen and omega oils, supported by research partnerships. Phase 4 targets high-value pharmaceutical ingredients, including bioactive compounds and peptides. Market drivers include increasing demand for organic fertilisers, growing global nutraceutical markets, and high domestic import costs for collagen. By creating circular value chains and supporting sustainable industry practices, Fish Renew aims to reduce waste, create new revenue streams, and strengthen South Africa’s aquaculture and bioeconomy sectors.
