Overview

The Awdal Youth Climate Assembly establishes Somalia’s first permanent youth-led governance structure for climate action. Fifty youth representatives (18–35) from all six major clans, including IDP and minority communities, will meet quarterly to deliberate on climate adaptation priorities. Intergenerational dialogues with elders integrate traditional knowledge with modern climate science. A Community Climate Action Fund provides small grants ($500–$1,000) for youth-led projects in water harvesting, tree planting, and solar energy. The Assembly will develop a Youth Climate Charter advocating for policy change at regional and national levels. This model shifts power to those most affected by climate change, ensuring adaptation is community-owned, intergenerational, and just. The project builds on Bilan Awdal’s 20 years of community-led development in Somalia.

Why Investing

1
20-Year Track Record of Delivery in One of the World's Toughest Environments
We have operated continuously in Somalia since 2002 – through civil conflict, drought, displacement, and institutional collapse. While others left, we stayed. We have rehabilitated 25+ water systems serving 50,000+ people, trained 120 youth with 78% employment, and restored 50 hectares of forest. This is not a startup risk. This is a proven operator with two decades of survival and impact. For investors: Your capital is managed by a team that knows how to deliver in challenging contexts. We don't need to learn on the job. We've been doing it for 20 years.
2
Government-Endorsed, Scalable Model with Built-in Demand
Our Water Guardians curriculum has been adopted as national policy in Somaliland. This means government recognition, institutional buy-in, and a clear pathway to scale. The Ministry of Water has already budgeted $150,000 for expansion. This is not a pilot seeking validation – it's a proven system ready for investment. For investors: Your investment leverages government commitment, reducing your risk and amplifying your impact. We're not building from scratch; we're scaling what already works.
3
Revenue-Generating Infrastructure with Clear Financial Returns
Our solar water systems generate predictable revenue through water sales. In Baydhabo, a $160 million investment will serve 850,000 people with affordable water, generating $12 million annual revenue and covering all O&M costs within 3 years. Surplus revenue (projected $6 million/year) can service investment and fund expansion. For investors: This is not charity – it's infrastructure with a revenue model. Water is essential, demand is guaranteed, and our community-managed approach ensures payment collection and system sustainability.
