It is a great honor and privilege for me to address this august assembly today on behalf of Miners Association of Nigeria, which is the Trademark owner of the Nigeria Mining Week, as we announce the commencement of activities towards the celebration of the Landmark 10th edition of this international event that has been shaping our national mining ecosystem.
I hereby sincerely appreciate the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, our sponsors, the partners, supporting associations, the MDAs, the academia, members of the fourth estate of the Realm and all those groups and individuals who have been partnering with us in the past over nine years to grow the sector through this platform.
May all our labors never go in vain.
Over the past nine years, this annual event has stood tall in leading conversations that have hallmarked the growth and the development of Nigeria Solid Minerals sector. It has remained the prime platform for the incubation of innovative ideas fueling sectoral growth, introduction and showcasing of emerging global technologies and methodologies in mining jurisdictions, launching of national landmark achievements in our regulatory oversight (e.g eMC+, Nigeria Minerals Map, etc), business linkages and closing deals with local and international investors, educating and sensitizing small scale title holders and indigenous operators on global best practices and adherence to local operating standards, and many more.
There is no doubting the fact that, through the instrumentality of this event, the mining sector has achieved remarkable progress.From increased exploration activities to the growth of artisanal and small-scale mining, and the emergence of larger mining operations, our sector has steadily evolved. Significant strides have been made in formalizing artisanal mining, improving regulatory compliance, and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. Production of key minerals such as gold, limestone, and bitumen has increased, contributing to local economic growth and job creation. Policy reforms, including improved licensing processes and fiscal incentives, have also enhanced the ease of doing business within the sector. Moreover, mining companies are increasingly adopting modern technologies and sustainable practices to optimize efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and improve community engagement.
As miners, we have faced challenges, but we have also achieved milestones. Together, we have fostered investment opportunities, improved operational standards, and strengthened governance and compliance across the industry. Nigeria Mining Week has been a pivotal platform in this journey – bringing together government, investors, operators, service providers, sponsors, partners, and civil society to discuss, share, and strategize on sustainable growth for our sector.
While we celebrate progress, we acknowledge that challenges remain. Infrastructure gaps, access to finance, and regulatory bottlenecks continue to affect miners, especially small-scale operators. Skills development and technology adoption are also critical areas that require sustained attention. Yet, with every challenge comes an opportunity. Nigeria is rich in solid minerals, and with the right policies, collaboration, and investment, our sector can drive economic diversification, create jobs, and contribute significantly to national development. The 10th Anniversary Edition of Nigeria Mining Week presents an enhanced platform for dialogue, partnerships, and investment. It is an opportunity to showcase technological innovation, sustainable practices, and business excellence across the value chain.
At MAN, we firmly believe that the strength of our sector lies in collaboration. Our partnership with the Ministry, investors, sponsors, and industry stakeholders has been instrumental in shaping policies, improving operational standards, and building trust in the sector. During this edition, we will further engage in initiatives that promote investment, enhance safety, support artisanal and small-scale miners, and drive compliance with global best practices. The event will also spotlight deal rooms, technical workshops, and strategic forums to encourage practical solutions and direct engagement between operators and investors.
I call upon all stakeholders – government agencies, investors, mining operators, sponsors, partners, service providers, and the media – to actively participate in this milestone edition. Attend the conferences, join the workshops, and engage in the deal rooms. Your involvement will help ensure that the 10th Anniversary of Nigeria Mining Week is not just a celebration, but a launchpad for the next decade of growth, innovation, and prosperity in Nigeria’s mining sector.

Faruk Yusuf Yabo, representing the Minister, as well as all our sponsors, partners, and stakeholders who continue to support the growth of our sector. Together, let us celebrate our achievements, embrace opportunities, and commit to building a stronger, more sustainable mining industry for Nigeria.
