FSD Africa: Forecasting Green Jobs in Africa

A new study forecasts Africa’s green job growth to reach 1.5 to 3.3 million new direct jobs by 2030, focusing on 12 high-potential value chains in sectors like energy, agriculture, and construction.

Solar power alone could drive up to 1.7 million jobs, while climate-smart agriculture and aquaculture offer significant opportunities. South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria lead in job creation potential among five focus countries.

The research highlights the urgent need for workforce development, targeted investments, and policy support to build a skilled talent pipeline. Collaborative action across public, private, and social sectors is key to scaling Africa’s green economy.
