Upcoming Dialogue: Next-generation carbon markets – How AI, satellites and digital MRV are changing the rules

Carbon markets are entering a new era.

Artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, digital MRV, remote sensing and advanced data analytics are rapidly changing how carbon projects are identified, monitored, verified and financed.

Activities that once required expensive site visits, manual data collection and months of verification may soon be completed remotely, continuously and at a fraction of the cost.

But these technologies are doing more than making existing systems more efficient. They are changing what is possible.

Could AI identify the best locations for new carbon projects? Will satellite monitoring replace routine field visits? Could digital verification dramatically reduce transaction costs and unlock smaller projects that were previously uneconomic?

And if investors can monitor projects in near real time, how might this change the way carbon assets are valued and financed?

This dialogue looks beyond today’s applications to explore how technology could reshape carbon markets over the next five years and what this means for Africa.

Expected outcomes

Participants will leave with:

  • A vision of how carbon markets could evolve over the next five years
  • An understanding of the technologies already transforming project development, monitoring and verification
  • Practical insight into how digital innovation can reduce costs, improve integrity and increase investor confidence
  • A clearer view of how project developers can prepare for the next generation of carbon markets
