Overview

The Volcanoes Community Resilience project supports Rwanda’s Vision 2050 by reducing flood risks, restoring landscapes, and strengthening livelihoods in eight districts. This scalable initiative tackles climate vulnerability, land degradation, and poverty through green/grey infrastructure, early warning systems, and livelihood diversification.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and supported by the World Bank, it prioritises inclusion, empowering women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Large-Scale Landscape Restoration & Environmental Gains

Invest in improving land management across 48,568.5 hectares. This enhances soil stability, reduces run-off, and restores vital ecosystem functions across the volcano landscape.

High-Value Conservation & Green Growth

Secure significant conservation gains with 732.5 hectares added to Volcanoes National Park (pilot phase). This strengthens biodiversity protection while unlocking nature-based economic opportunities.
