Overview

The Kavango Project is a natural resources initiative with its main aim the long-term development of specific natural resources in the Kavango Regions and Zambezi Region in such a way that it remains sustainable to the benefit of the regions and Namibia at large and thereby improve the lives of the Kavango and Zambezi Regions’ inhabitants.

The construction of an international thatch training centre. The development of home-based natural resources and specifically thatch grass in these regions, home made furniture, art & crafts from the natural products in the region, poles, secondary industries such as essential oils from Cymbopogon caesium (local name Kasissi grass) need to be determined. Exporting of thatch grass to neighbouring countries and international markets. Another home-based natural resource that can be further explored is the tanning of cow hide. On average up to 100 bovines per village, and at times exceeding, are slaughtered annually and the hides discarded.
