Overview

Ngwilago Youth Transcend is a registered Company in Tanzania since 2022. The Company is building Bio-Intelligent “Plant Talk Irrigation platform and systen, a next-generation AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things)-powered, solar-driven irrigation platform that enables smallholder farmers to conserve freshwater by intelligently automating and optimizing water, fertilizer, and pesticide use through an affordable pay-per-use model managed via USSD/SMS and WhatsApp.

The system monitors real-time plant stress directly, rather than relying on soil moisture alone. Using AI, it analyzes plant stress through leaf temperature, stem diameter, and real-time soil moisture monitoring, aiming to achieve zero water waste while improving freshwater conservation.

At the core of the innovation are 3D-printed, non-invasive EP nano-sensors made from carbon nanotubes and graphene-based materials, integrated into the plant’s vascular system and attached directly to leaves or stems. These sensors monitor sap flow, transpiration rate, and leaf water potential in real time, detecting minuscule shifts in water potential and stress hormones before the plant shows visible signs of wilting.

When a plant requires water, it sends an electrical signal through the Internet of Nano-Things (IoNT) network to an AI controller. The controller feeds data into an AI model capable of predicting water stress before it occurs. The system then activates Subsurface Drip Irrigation (SDI) through smart Grow Stream tubes, delivering water directly to the root zone at the precise molecular volume required. This reduces evaporation by up to 90% compared to traditional irrigation methods.

Powered by Hyper-Localized Edge AI, the platform makes instantaneous, hyper-local decisions based on localized data, eliminating dependence on consistent internet connectivity and making it highly suitable for Africa, the Global South, and emerging markets.

This innovation has enabled farms to shift from reactive water management to predictive optimization, significantly reducing water waste while strengthening both productivity and resource security. The system has reportedly supported more than 300,000 farmers across Africa by reducing water overuse by 60% and cutting irrigation costs by approximately $545 per hectare per season. In addition, it reduces fertilizer overuse by 50% and pesticide overuse by 70%, preventing runoff and safeguarding groundwater from harmful agricultural chemicals, while enhancing water security and climate resilience.

The technology has also demonstrated the potential to increase crop yields by up to three times per acre and double farm income, helping farmers move from living on less than $1 per day to earning over $5 per day. At the same time, it is creating thousands of green and sustainable agricultural jobs for youth and women smallholder farmers.

Ngwilago Youth Transcend is not only a technology provider, but also a contributor to systemic agricultural water-efficiency transformation, ready to move from innovation to large-scale real-world deployment and help shape the future of sustainable water and agriculture sectors.

Since 2023, the organization has established strategic partnerships with angel investors BlueInvest Africa, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme, Zhejiang University, World Bank, and Financial Times to reduce operational costs and accelerate scale-up efforts. Moreover, the company successfully raised an additional $1 million in 2025, bringing its total capital raised to date to $7 million through a combination of angel investment, Equity, Loan and Grants.

Why Investing

1
AI-Driven Precision Irrigation
Plant-Talk uses plant-integrated nanosensors and smart subsurface irrigation valves to respond to real-time crop stress, delivering water and nutrients only when needed and potentially reducing water and energy consumption by up to 60%.
2
Integrated Soil & Energy Nexus
Combines AI irrigation, precision fertilisation, targeted crop protection, solar-powered pumping, and smart energy management in one platform, reducing dependence on diesel, lowering input costs, and improving resource efficiency.
3
Community-Based & Scalable Model
Decentralised solar-powered irrigation hubs allow multiple farmers to share advanced infrastructure without bearing the full cost individually, while local assembly, installation, and maintenance create green jobs and build technical capacity in rural communities.
