Overview

Kawi Industries Limited is an early-stage renewable energy company headquartered in Kenya, dedicated to transforming energy access for underserved rural communities through innovative, scalable, and climate-smart solutions. Founded in 2019 and incorporated in 2023, Kawi began as a clean fuel (briquettes/biomass) enterprise before pivoting to solar energy in response to the urgent need for reliable electricity in off-grid regions.
The company’s flagship solution is the Solar Swarm Electrification Program (Solar-SEP), which deploys decentralized, AI-driven solar microgrids that deliver reliable 230V AC power to households, businesses, and institutions. Unlike competitors offering DC-based systems limited to basic lighting and phone charging, Kawi’s Swarm Grid enables productive use—powering refrigerators, water pumps, welding machines, and mills—turning energy from a cost into a profit center for microenterprises.
Kawi’s technology is modular and scalable, allowing expansion from kilowatts to megawatts without expensive infrastructure redesign. Each grid node is equipped with AI-driven self-learning capability that balances loads in real-time, predicts maintenance needs, and optimizes energy distribution with transmission losses under 10% and uptime exceeding 95%. Customers access electricity through prepaid PAYG mobile metering (M-Pesa), ensuring affordability and flexibility.
Currently, Kawi operates a 64kWh pilot grid in Butula Subcounty, serving 56 households with over 1,950 waitlisted—demonstrating overwhelming demand. The company targets 12,800 household connections by 2027 and regional expansion across Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, and South Sudan by 2028.
Kawi’s business model is diversified: recurring revenue from energy sales, B2B solar installations, Solar Home Systems, and a future franchise model empowering local entrepreneurs.
With zero debt, strong unit economics and a world-class advisory board, Kawi offers investors a high-impact, high-return opportunity aligned with SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 1 (No Poverty). Kawi is not just electrifying communities—it is powering dignity, productivity, and resilience across Africa.

Why Investing

1
AI-Driven Productive-Use Energy
Unlike basic solar home systems focused on lighting and phone charging, Solar-SEP delivers 230V AC power capable of running refrigerators, water pumps, welding machines, grain mills, and other productive equipment.
2
Scalable AI-Powered Swarm Grid
Its decentralised network of intelligent nodes can self-balance energy demand, respond to real-time fluctuations, and predict maintenance needs, with modular scaling from kilowatts to megawatts without major grid redesign.
3
Affordable & Community-Owned Growth Model
Combines PAYG mobile metering with a future franchise model, enabling affordable energy access while creating local ownership opportunities. At scale, the model aims to reduce emissions, empower microenterprises, create jobs, and strengthen energy resilience.
