Overview

Grassland Restoration and Stewardship in South Africa (GRASS) is the world’s first VM0042-registered project under Verra’s Standard (VCS 2931). Developed by TASC, it is a large-scale, nature-based solution regenerating degraded grasslands while creating sustained economic opportunity for both communal and private land stewards.

In the communal landscape, GRASS works alongside Meat Naturally to implement planned grazing and contextual fire management across more than 400,000 hectares. Farmers are organised into Grazing Associations, while local youth are employed as Ecorangers to manage livestock rotation and monitor veld condition. On private lands, GRASS partners with commercial farmers through Healing Hooves to support the adoption of regenerative practices that restore soil carbon and ecological function. With over 2 million hectares targeted by 2030, the project knits together communal knowledge and commercial innovation into a single ecological economy.
