Development stageThe Ago-Owu Forest Restoration Platform (AFRP) is a landscape-scale natural capital and forest restoration initiative in Osun State, Nigeria. The programme is being developed across an approximately 23,000-hectare anchor landscape, with an indicative ~7,500 hectares presently envisaged for active restoration interventions alongside measures to strengthen protection and buffer the wider forest reserve against further degradation.
AFRP is designed to address forest degradation and land-use pressure through a community-centred transition model combining Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR), enrichment planting, agroforestry, conservation and improved landscape management. The programme seeks to generate measurable ecological, social and natural-capital outcomes, including forest and habitat recovery, biodiversity enhancement, climate mitigation and adaptation, improved livelihood resilience and long-term landscape protection.
The project is being developed through engagement with local communities and relevant state and federal institutions. NCCC No-Objection has been obtained, while further technical, community, regulatory, governance and investment-readiness work forms part of the proposed Phase 2 development programme.
Noblesse Green Energy is seeking approximately US$2 million in Phase 2 development capital to undertake community mobilisation and participatory planning, forest and land-use baselines, carbon and biodiversity assessments, GIS and spatial analysis, restoration planning, MRV and data infrastructure, safeguards, regulatory progression, governance structuring and investment preparation.
Phase 2 is intended to progressively validate and de-risk AFRP ahead of subsequent full-scale capital deployment. The current indicative full programme is approximately US$32 million, subject to technical validation, detailed design, commercial structuring and due diligence. Carbon represents one potential value pathway within a broader natural-capital model rather than the sole basis of the investment proposition.
