Ghana’s delegation champions women’s role in Green Transition at UN Event

April 08, 2024

Ghana’s delegation to the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) has taken a proactive stance in advocating for women’s empowerment within the context of environmental sustainability.

The delegation engaged in a high-level panel discussion titled, “Placing Women at the Heart of Financing the Green Transition in Africa: Strategies to Accelerate Gender Equality and Fight Poverty.” It was hosted at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium at the Permanent Observation of the African Union (AU) and co-hosted by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The event served as a platform for robust dialogue on the crucial role of women in driving the green transition across Africa.

The discussions aimed to foster collaboration among ECOWAS ministers for women and gender, focusing on devising inclusive and gender-sensitive strategies for a sustainable green transition.

It underscored the emergence of opportunities for women in the transition to a green economy while ensuring women have access to green finance and employment opportunities in sectors such as clean energy.

In addition to participating in the panel discussion, the Ghanaian delegation joined representatives from other UN member states in an interactive expert panel discussion on the CSW’s priority theme, further underscoring the nation’s commitment to advancing gender equality on the global stage.
