FPI and IDC Sign Strategic MOU to Drive Industrialisation in the DRC

February 12, 2026

Johannesburg / Kinshasa — 12 February 2026

Partnership to Accelerate Industrialisation

The Fonds de Promotion de l’Industrie (FPI) and the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to accelerate industrialisation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with implications for broader African economic development.

Under the MOU, the IDC will deploy investment capital to support FPI initiatives, enabling co-investment across a pipeline of infrastructure projects. Both organisations will collaborate on strategy development to ensure sustainable, long-term growth in key industrial sectors. FPI is targeting a minimum capital raise of $100 million, positioning the fund as a major driver of industrial and economic transformation.

“This partnership marks a pivotal step in unlocking the DRC’s industrial potential,” said  FPI Director General Herve Claude Ntumba Batukonke, . “By aligning investment with strategic infrastructure development, we aim to build resilient value chains and foster industrialisation that benefits the broader region.”

Strengthening Africa’s Industrial Ecosystem

The collaboration also seeks to strengthen Africa’s critical minerals and industrial ecosystem, providing opportunities for local beneficiation, infrastructure development, and value chain integration. By combining financial resources, technical expertise, and strategic vision, FPI and IDC are positioned to address key challenges in industrial financing while accelerating regional economic growth.

A Model for Public–Private Partnerships

The MOU reflects a broader continental trend: leveraging public–private partnerships to unlock capital for industrialisation, strengthen local supply chains, and advance economic diversification. For the DRC, it reinforces its role as a strategic hub for critical minerals and industrial development, offering a blueprint for similar initiatives across Africa.

Economic Impact and Future Prospects

With the $100 million capital target, the partnership is expected to catalyse high-impact projects that align industrial growth with sustainable development. These initiatives will create employment, foster local skills, and support long-term economic resilience.
