Advisory Board

Dr Patrick HLABELA has a PhD in Chemical Engineering in the field of Acid Mine Drainage control and treatment. He currently holds a position of Specialist Scientist and Unit Head: Climate Change Analysis within the Water Resources Management Branch of the Department of Water and Sanitation, South Africa. He has previously worked for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) where he served as Manager: Hydraulic Infrastructure Engineering, Manager (Acting): Water Research Centre, and he founded and led Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Research Group of the CSIR. Hlabela has also worked for the State Security Agency as Head Specialist Scientist where he co-established the Centre for Energy, Food, Environment and Water Security, within the Economic Intelligence Chief Directorate. His research interest is in Climate Resilient Water Infrastructure and Management Systems, for sustainability and economic security. Dr Hlabela’s slogan “the future of Africa’s water security depends on the decisions we make today.”
