Ernst is a regulatory and environmental lawyer with more than a decade of experience advising multinational corporations, governments, and international institutions on natural resources, energy, environmental, and sustainability regulation across Africa and the wider EMEA region. His environmental expertise is particularly relevant to environmental due diligence processes. As a certified Environmental Management Inspector and qualified Environmental Assessment Practitioner, he combines technical environmental knowledge with deep regulatory experience, enabling him to identify legal, permitting, compliance, and ESG risks across complex projects and transactions. Ernst advises throughout the natural resources lifecycle, including environmental authorisations, regulatory compliance, mine development, renewable energy projects, and sustainability governance. He has also served as international legal counsel to governments on mineral law reform programmes and standard setting organisations including the ICMM, SBTi, GHO and CDP on their position papers and global standards.
