Overview

The cement industry represents 8% of the total world CO2 emissions. The project consists in the construction of a fully decarbonated cement plant according to the Paris Agreement, Energy Transition and COP 28 in Nouadhibou, north of Mauritania with 1 000 000 ton per year capacity. To fully decarbonize the cement plant, 50% green hydrogen and 50% waste will be used to fire the kiln burner. The green hydrogen production will be done by PEM electrolyzers supplied in underground water which is abundant in the area, and energy from a solar plant and a wind farm. The green hydrogen production will be 23 ton per day. In case of a period with no wind and no sun, a 5 day green hydrogen storage will be installed in order to supply the kiln in hydrogen and electricity to the plant through an hydrogen turbine or motor. The oxygen will be used to work in oxy-fuel (oxy-combustion). CCUS will be installed after the plant COD and the CO2 will be mixed with H2 to make methanol.
