Mr. Shaun Mhlanga (CMILT), is a professionally registered transport specialist with the South African Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILTSA) with 16 years’ experience and currently employed in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR’s) Smart Mobility, Passenger Transport group as a Senior Researcher. Previously, he was with National Department of Transport and later at the National Treasury. He has extensive knowledge in public policy, administration and governance, research project management, transport planning and analysis, built environment, public finance, urban development and infrastructure, financial analysis, business development, stakeholder engagement.
Academically, Mr Mhlanga holds an MSc of Sustainability in Transport from the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) and Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom). He has obtained his BCom Honours (Transport Economics) from UNISA and BCom at North West University (Transport Economics).
Professionally, he has working knowledge of smart mobility initiative and research including land transport funding frameworks, sustainable mobility legislation and policies, and has been involved in public transport reform initiatives including Integrated Public Transport Networks, rationalization of subsidized inter-provincial commuter bus contracts, development and update of provincial household travel database, transformation and integration of minibus taxi industry into the broader public transport formal system.
