Safiyyah is a civil engineer by training and has worked in industry for the last 18 years. Her experience includes construction supervision and management, consulting in transport and traffic engineering projects and management consulting in the public and private sector.
She is professionally registered engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (2011) and a member of the South African Institute for Civil Engineering (SAICE). She has an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town (2005), a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge (2014) and is currently registered for her PhD at the University of Cape Town in Smart Mobility.
Her expertise includes executive management, technical and specialist advice in the public transport and climate change sectors, stakeholder engagement, financial management and project and team management. She was the technical director at Aurecon where she managed a national team of 25 people and served as the expertise lead for Aurecon Transport Planning. She currently consults on smart mobility and the sustainability sector, giving strategic and integration advise to clients .
She has also served as a Director on the Aurecon Owners Board and as Non-Executive Director for Siga Capital.She currently serves as NED for SAVE (training developmental company) and is listed as a friend of the Diplomatic Training Academy and International School for DIRCO.
