Rob Richardson was appointed to the position of Managing Director of Air Products South Africa (Pty) Ltd in July 2016. He brings a wealth of industry expertise, experience and insight to the leadership role at Air Products South Africa.
From 2008 to 2016, Richardson was the General Manager – On-Sites, where he managed a diverse business portfolio including air separation plant operations, Hydrogen separation systems and Carbon Dioxide production facilities, etc. In this position he held the overall operational responsibility for Air Products’ extensive network of gas production plants and distribution pipelines. He became a member of the company’s executive management committee in 2008 after spending four years as an On-Sites Projects Manager.
Richardson started his career at Sasol Technology and has held various engineering contracting and operations management positions in South Africa and the Middle East. He has over 30 years of process industry experience, including 10 years spent in the petrochemical industry, and an excess of 20 years in the industrial gases industry.
His experience spans a wide range of activities including business and operations management, plant engineering and maintenance, plant design and construction, etc. His industry exposure includes oil & gas, petrochemical and industrial gas production.
Richardson holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a Government Certificate in Competency (GCC Factories) and is registered as a Professional Engineer in South Africa.
