Zayd is a leading member of the South African renewable energy industry and a long serving volunteer at SAPVIA, SAWEA and the Energy Council of South Africa. He currently leads the renewable energy business of WSP Africa and is involved with over 40 wind, solar or BESS projects across the continent. An experienced electrical engineer, he has guided dozens of projects from Round 1 of REIPPP right up to the present day and has been instrumental in some of South Africa’s biggest private sector power procurement transactions to date. Zayd currently chairs the SAPVIA Grid Access Working Group which has championed the creation of the South African National Renewable Energy Survey in coordination with Eskom. In addition he represents SAPVIA at Energy Council engagements to unblock challenges facing industry at large.
