Nyeji Mhango is a seasoned economist and investment professional with over two decades of experience spanning venture capital, corporate finance, institutional banking, and sovereign debt management. She is widely recognized for her expertise in finance, particularly in emerging economies, and for her commitment to fostering the growth of female-led businesses across Southern Africa. In 2020, she co-founded wCap Limited, an investment management firm in Zambia that is focused on the nexus between climate finance and gender lens investing in the Southern African region.
Beyond her work with wCap Limited, she has held numerous leadership and advisory roles. She served as a Non-Executive Director at Lend Me Pay Zambia Limited, a fintech business, where she provided strategic oversight to ensure the company met its obligations to stakeholders. As the Regional Director of The Alpha Group International UK, she facilitated peer-to-peer executive support for business leaders to enhance business value. Her extensive experience also includes serving as an Economic Advisor at Plan International Zambia, where she led a nationwide female economic empowerment program. Earlier in her career, she held pivotal roles such as Associate Director for Financial Institutions at Standard Chartered Bank Zambia and Principal Economist for regional integration at Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, she represented the Zambian government as a Diplomat and Economic Advisor (First Secretary) at its High Commissions in London and Kuala Lumpur, where she oversaw foreign direct investment and private equity transactions into Zambia. Prior to these roles, she served as Senior Economist, focusing on sovereign debt management at the Ministry of Finance.
She is a thought leader in her field and is affiliated with several professional organizations including 100 Women in Finance, Women in African Investments, the Advancing Women in Investments Group and Women Leaders in Climate Action Zambia demonstrating her enthusiasm for both finance and sustainable finance. She holds a Master of Science in Development Finance from the University of Reading, UK, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Namibia.
