Nikara Mahadeo

Nature-based Solutions Associate, World Resources Institute

July 2024, working with the South African Cities team, as a Nature-based Solutions Associate in the Africa Climate Resilient Cities Program. She leads the delivery of the Caterpillar Foundation Project whilst also supporting components of DANIDA and SUNCASA workstreams.

Nikara comes from an environmental sciences background, having worked in the biodiversity and conservation sectors in South Africa and Africa for over 10 years. Her professional work experience includes having previously worked with cities and local governments across Africa, to implement and mainstream biodiversity and nature-based solutions, through various projects. Nikara has also worked for several conservation NGOs in South Africa, focused on community-based conservation, ecological restoration, water security and biodiversity stewardship.

Nikara holds MSc Environmental Sciences (University of KwaZulu-Natal), an MPhil in Conservation Leadership (University of Cambridge) and an ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management (Level 3). Her professional interests include ecological management, restoration and biodiversity finance.
