Julius Abayateye

Head of Division, System Operation Coordination

Mr. Abayateye is the Head of Division, System Operations Coordination at the West African Power Pool (WAPP). He manages the team responsible for real time monitoring and situational awareness, operational planning functions including reliability assessment studies, outage coordination studies, etc. He has about 15 years’ experience in power systems engineering and research including, technical, in-depth, and hands-on studies and analysis for power grid transmission planning and power systems operation. 

Prior to joining the West African Power Pool in 2014, he worked with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) as a Power System Planning Engineer in the Engineering Department. 

He has also previously served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Regional Maritime University, Ghana, in the Electrical Engineering Department, an Electrical Engineer at the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO). Mr. Abayateye received his Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Tennessee Technological University, USA, where he also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant. He also holds a Certificate in Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies from Stanford University, USA, and a Bachelor of Science Degree (Honors) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
