Hans-Arild has extensive international experience from various power market design and trading arrangements since 1992 where he was involved in developing the first market systems at Nord Pool. Hans-Arild has been working supporting the power industry with consultancy, advice, implementation and IT services connected to the establishment, design, regulations, implementation and operation of both national and regional power markets in more than 20 countries/regions stretching from California, China and Japan via India and the Gulf region to Eastern and Southern Africa.  

Based on the experience from the Nordic market bundled with a broad international experience, he is able to provide assistance to market operators, regulatory authorities and system operators on how to implement a power market based on sound economics taking into account the local conditions. He has a detailed insight in all EU market regulations, not only from a theoretical perspective, but also from an implementation and operational perspective.  

Hans-Arild has been one of the key partners in the development of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) for the last eighteen years and is currently assisting in the market design, market rules as well the development of the new trading platform for Eastern African Power Pool.  He is also currently supporting South Africa, Zambia, Uganda and Lesotho in their current energy market reforms. In South-east Asia he was one of the authors of the IEA report on “Multilateral Trade in ASEAN” as well as being a consultant to the ADB on their regional power trade initiatives.  

Hans-Arild is the CEO of Bredesen Consulting and is an associate of Nord Pool Consulting (where he previously was the CEO) as well as a board member at International Centre for Hydropower and a guest lecturer at both Wits Business School and the Power Futures Lab at the University of Cape Town both in South Africa.
