South African Airways

Captain Annabel Vundla

Pilot

I am the responsible person for safely transporting passengers by air. I am also responsible for  crew and the technical status of the aircraft.

Growing up in Mafikeng, North West, I have always had a passion for aviation. I joined the South African airforce in 1999, and  went on to became the first black female pilot and instructor in the history of the South African Defence Force . I then went on to be the only woman of colour  flying all democratically -elected heads of state from 2005-2010. I joined South African Airways in 2010 and flew the Boeing 737-800 and became the first black female captain of an airline in South Africa. I ultimately want to encourage women to pursue their dreams and goals and never give up.
