We are recruiting an ambitious and experienced Event Manager for the day-to-day ownership and delivery of DRC Mining Week, DRC-Africa Battery Metals Forum and Nigeria Mining Week. These events are stand-alone market leaders in their markets and are recognised by both regional and international mining professionals.
Requirements & Competencies:
The candidate will assume full responsibility for a number of key areas within the event, including relationship management with stakeholders across the events; assisting the Event Director with P&L management and monthly forecast reporting; consolidation of sales strategy and implementation into the team; contributing to the marketing strategy and assist the Marketing Manager with the implementation into the team; content management to ensure topic selection and content delivery is on-point for the sector and geography; operations insight and management with implementation into team; development and nurturing of new and existing strategic relationships to positively influence the event outcomes and development; annual submission of event business plan and budgets.
- 5+ year’s event & project management experience
- Must be residing in Cape Town
- Building and maintaining relationships with senior external stakeholders
- Administration skills – organised – planner
- Ability to demonstrate creativity in promotional campaigns across traditional and digital platforms
- Excellent communication skills across mediums
- Leadership & team motivation
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Professionalism, integrity, must be well presented
- Computer literate – PC skills, especially Microsoft Office
- HubSpot (or similar Sales) CRM experience
- French speaking (preferably Congolese)
- Knowledge of the Mining sector an advantage
- Sales management and planning

Responsibilities:
Project management:
- Work with the Event Director to shape and implement the events’ overall strategy in order to produce the commercial goals of the event
- Set and manage project delivery timelines
- Ensure team is resourced adequately
- Ensure team members are working smartly and productively
- Suitable engagement and ownership of revenue targets:
- Agree sales strategy with Group Commercial Director and Event Director
- Ensure delivery of sales strategy across project and digital platforms
- Maximise sponsorship and stand sales from existing and new clients
- Write and action major account plans and competitive strategies
- Engage with key revenue stakeholders to diversify the relationship lines into the organisation
- Monthly revenue forecasts and sales activities
Product Development:
- Identify new/adjacent product areas to grow and develop existing events
- Work with Head of Content and Junior Event Manager to ensure effective content streams into the event which can influence new revenue streams
- Develop a digital engagement strategy for the event brands – featuring on the group mining digital platform
- Focus on building out data volume and quality for event profiles
- Establish and commit to a KPI metric for MQL generation across projects and influence achievement
Reporting and Forecasting:
- Report on sales activity and sales results
- Maintain an up-to-date pipeline document with accurate forecasting
- Ensure P&L is continuously updated with accurate revenue and contribution forecasts – monthly
- Create and deliver annual event business plan and budget documents
Marketing:
- Establish with Marketing Manager the marketing initiatives to promote the events and conferences to potential industry professionals, both regionally and internationally
- Ensure a comprehensive and wide-ranging traditional and digital marketing campaign
- Measure and monitor marketing outputs
- Ensure that the marketing team produces and actions website analytics and digital engagement reports
Stakeholder Management:
- Work closely with new and existing stakeholders of influence related to the events
- Work with external stakeholders and stakeholder groups to manage and increase all areas of their engagement with the event
- Develop features, conferences and other onsite content to support stakeholder attendance and participation at all levels
- Deliver any reporting commitments to external stakeholders
Content:
- Commitment to qualifying the content plan for the events
- Engage with Head of Content and Conference Producer to build a suitable and effective content plan for the event focus and geography
- Leverage content at all customer and stakeholder touch points
- Ensure a quality content plan that is delivered annually on the digital platforms
Operations & Sales Admin:
- Maintain and manage the floor plan and ensure sales team update it correctly
- Ensure the exhibitor list is correct and the team maintain, develop and manage database records and sales communication
- Liaising with finance team to ensure invoicing and revenue collection is taking place in a timely fashion
- Ensuring critical event functions are informed of event timelines and key event initiatives to maximise their effectiveness across each event cycle
- Work with Ops team to ensure the event runs safely, and in a manner consistent with the expectations of the company, stakeholders and exhibitors.
